Stress can take a toll on all of us. Whether you’re experiencing stress from life at home or at work, here are eight tips to manage stress.
1. Take a 10-Minute Break
Sometimes walking away from the task or situation that’s bothering you for 10 minutes can make all the difference. Never be afraid to ask for a break and to reconvene in 10 minutes!
Moving your body and getting active is a great way to release stress and help your body produce endorphins—the chemical that triggers a positive feeling in your body. Even 10 minutes of movement can help clear your mind and help you feel ready to tackle an issue head-on.
3. Get Outside
Fresh air is refreshing and rejuvenating! Heading outside for even just a few minutes can help make you feel calmer and reduce stress.
4. Take a Moment to Practice Mindfulness
Mindfulness comes in all forms and tactics. You can do traditional meditation where you focus on your breathing, or you can try yoga, walking, or driving. Exercise and journaling are also considered forms of mindfulness. You just have to find a method that works best for you!
5. Write It Out
This strategy works especially well if you are feeling stress towards a specific person or project. Grab a spare piece of paper or open a note on your phone and write out what is frustrating you. Or try writing a letter to the person, place, or thing that’s frustrating you; then try ripping up or burning the letter after!
6. Listen to Your Favorite Music
Sometimes the best way to relieve stress is to listen to your favorite song, album, band, or playlist. Want to release some endorphins while listening? Don’t be afraid to dance the stress out!
7. Do an Activity You Like
It can be difficult to remember to do things you love when you’re stressed. But that can sometimes be the best stress reliever! Go tinker with something in your garage. Grab your sketchbook. Head out to your garden. Pick up a book. Reach out to friends about a pickup game of basketball. The options are endless!
