Interning with Dot Foods has been incredibly impactful for me as I navigate my career path. Dot seeks interns with the intent of finding and developing talent for the betterment of the company. I have loved my summer with Dot and feel truly blessed to have gotten a taste of their welcoming, positive, and encouraging culture. Working at Dot has allowed me to be a part of valuable and relevant projects, develop both personally and professionally, and contribute to something much bigger than myself.
Building Relationships of Value
As the Human Resources Intern, I was able to build a strong relationship with my manager and the rest of the HR team. These unyielding relationships allowed me to work well with them and take ownership of several projects. It was clear from the beginning that my work was valued, which encouraged me to work diligently.
Applying Old and New Knowledge
My favorite project was the Three-Year Wellness Strategy. I was able to use my knowledge as a Kinesiology major and seek opportunities to increase the overall wellness of the Dot community. This process involved strategizing with leaders at Dot as well as our partnering companies. My manager, Chelsea, lead me to understand the importance of working hard and staying busy to feel fulfilled and productive at the end of each day.
Stepping Outside of My Comfort Zone
Dot invests time and energy into the development of its employees, and I was often challenged to step outside of my comfort zone. As a part of the internship program, I was able to participate in roundtable and networking events to meet employees in other areas of the business. From there I pinpointed interests of mine and was able to job shadow in the different fields.
One of my favorite and most efficacious opportunities at Dot was traveling to the Chesterfield and St. Louis offices to discuss opportunities in different departments and to see Dot in an urban setting. We were able to discuss the day-to-day life and the ups and downs, as well as future opportunities that may arise. From networking opportunities like these, to training sessions like “Public Speaking” and “Mental Health Awareness in the Workplace,” it is so apparent that Dot cares for its employees and wants to create an encouraging environment of growth for everyone.

From day one, I have been overwhelmed with the friendliness of every Dot employee and their desire to get to know one another better. I am so thankful for the opportunity to be a part of this amazing culture and to have met so many great people and intern friends who will last a lifetime. Many thanks to the entire Dot community for such a rewarding and memorable summer!
