In less than 10 months, beginning October 1, 2020, every person who flies domestically in the United States must have a REAL ID, a REAL ID-compliant driver’s license, or a passport.

How can I tell if I have a REAL ID?

If your license has a star in the upper right-hand corner, you are good!

If you already own a passport, then you do not need to update to the REAL ID. But you will need both your current ID and passport to fly domestically and visit federal facilities as of October 1, 2020.

For more information

Please go to your local Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) office for more information and to get a checklist of the paperwork needed to update to the REAL ID.

To learn more about REAL ID, visit the Department of Homeland Security’s website.

There is also a really great FAQs list you can check out here.
